Residents injured and evacuated after a fire in care homes for the elderly in Schagen

A fire raged for a short time tonight in an apartment complex on the Miede in Schagen. Two people were injured as a result. At least ten residents were evacuated. Elderly people who need care live in the building.

The fire started just after 11 p.m. and was extinguished after about an hour. Three residents were checked by the ambulance staff, and two of them were subsequently injured and taken to hospital.

One house is uninhabitable after the fire. At least ten homes have been evacuated because of the smoke and stench that was released by the fire. The residents are now being taken care of elsewhere, but the spokesperson for the Security Region indicates that they may still be able to return to their own homes tonight.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
