Research: wealth distribution is more skewed than thought

The distribution of wealth in the Netherlands is “more skewed than expected”, according to a study carried out on behalf of the cabinet. For example, the richest 1 percent of Dutch households own 26 percent of total wealth. On the other hand, a quarter of households have debts.

The cabinet had asked for the so-called ‘interdepartmental policy study’ (IBO). In August, prior to Budget Day, the cabinet will look at what it will do to reduce wealth inequality.
