The police base their conclusion that it was a fatal accident, among other things, on an investigation into the car in which the family was driving. The detectives looked at the option that the Gouwenaars followed a route on their navigation system that led to the ferry sidewalk. Their phones have also been scanned.
“There was no criminal offense,” said a police spokesman. “We will therefore not report on it further.” For the family, the police tried to reconstruct the accident as best as possible. The next of kin have been informed of the results of the investigation.
The relatives had attended a party in Rotterdam, drove back home, but did not arrive there. Shortly after their disappearance was reported to the police, hikers in the Lek near Ammerstol found a deceased person. After extensive investigation, officers found another body in the course of the evening in the Lek near Bergambacht. In the night from Sunday to Monday, the car was found in the water with two more deceased people in it.
In Gouda, the four family members were said goodbye in and in front of mosque Nour on Tuesday afternoon. The death prayer attracted several hundred Muslims.
