An outdoor swimming pool has been a long-cherished wish in Assen. But it suddenly came a little closer last fall. Then a council majority voted for a feasibility study. Most parties believe that a sports city like Assen should have more to offer than the small outdoor pool at De Bonte Wever.
In 2011, there was already an ambitious plan to realize a new bath at De Bonte Wever, in which the municipality would put money into it every year. Construction would cost about three million euros.
But two years later, this swimming pool plan was again scrapped. Assen had to cut back millions, and the council and the council did not opt for the promised swimming pool, but for a cycling track without a roof and the sustainability center in the Asserbos. City party PLOP has never let go of the open-air swimming pool and eventually received sufficient support for a motion for further investigation.
