Research into the new football stadium and exercise campus in Emmen is again taking more time

The municipality of Emmen again needs more time for the feasibility study into the combination of a new football stadium for FC Emmen with a sports and exercise campus.

Alderman Pascal Schrik (Wakker Emmen) announced this during the committee meeting of the municipality of Emmen. Last year, the municipality announced an investigation that would be completed at the end of 2022. Later it turned out that more time is needed. Once again, the municipality does not seem to meet the April deadline announced in January.

“Due to the degree of complexity of the development, we need more time than we expected in advance,” says Schrik. “Further research is needed in certain areas.” Schrik expects to be able to present the results after the summer.

The football stadium of FC Emmen, dating from 1977, is outdated and in need of replacement. At the same time, Drenthe College and Carmel College launched plans in 2018 for a top sports hall for up-and-coming sports talents.

The municipality of Emmen itself is faced with the task of tackling or replacing outdated sports facilities, such as the sports hall in the Angelslo district. All these matters are included in the ongoing investigation.

Incidentally, it is not the intention that the municipality itself should pay for the new accommodation of the parties involved. The necessary money must partly come from private investors.

Alderman Pascal Schrik previously spoke of a possible win-win situation. “Now all parties are working on their housing issues separately. If you can tackle this together, it immediately has added value.”
