Rescuers are already warning about spring tides on Saturday and Sunday

Both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, there is a strong rising sea between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., whereby the water suddenly rises much higher. Sunbathers prefer to settle on the dry sand, so that they are not surprised by the rising water. During spring tides, the beaches also shrink, bringing people closer together. Always swim in supervised areas, especially during spring tides.

Watch out for rapidly rising water and a dangerous undertow

Korneel Boeve is Beachmaster in Koksijde: “We always expect a strong northeasterly wind in combination with spring tides in the afternoon, i.e. at high water. Then the current and the wind are in the opposite direction. That can cause a lot of problems for bathers. there is a dangerous undertow. That is dangerous because it pulls your feet and your upper body in a different direction. More than five meters the beach becomes smaller, and this puts more pressure on the waterline. We ask bathers to be very careful in the water, don’t go too far, and follow the directions of the rescuers.
