The Generalitat Fire Brigade moved a helicopter and a team from the GRAE of la Seu d’Urgell (Lleida) together with a doctor from the Emergency Medical System (SEM), but the weather conditions did not allow the helicopter to get close, so it had to leave the rescue personnel at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, about 200 meters from the shelter.

From that point, the rescue teams approached by land to where the hikers were, one of whom was injured and with symptoms of severe hypothermia and lost consciousness.

The firefighters activated another two helicopters to transfer more personnel to the area to rescue the other two people, as well as six ground units and personnel from other fire stations in the area.

At about 4:45 p.m., members of the GRAE from La Seu d’Urgell located the two hikers at about 2,600 meters, one of them with serious signs of hypothermia and the other, unharmed, who was able to descend to the refuge on his own foot.
