The Dutch search and rescue team USAR flies from Eindhoven Airport to Turkey with 65 aid workers and eight rescue dogs. The team will search for survivors of the earthquake under the rubble.
A cargo plane with the necessary equipment is expected to leave on Monday at the end of the afternoon. It is not yet clear what time the team and the dogs will follow, the Urban Search and Rescue Team reports in a live blog on the website.
Southeast Turkey has now been hit by two major earthquakes, which have killed at least more than a thousand people in Turkey and neighboring Syria. The cargo plane carries equipment, such as so-called rescue tools, with a weight of 15 tons.
Minister Dilan Yesilgöz of Justice and Security reported earlier in the day that the team is being sent. This includes people from the police, fire brigade, ambulance and defense. The USAR team is deployed both at home and abroad in disasters or accidents in which people are trapped or buried.
