Firefighters have released a rook from its precarious position in Klazienaveen tonight. The bird got entangled in a piece of plastic and got stuck in a tree on the De Schoepen.
A local resident had already noticed the rook in the morning, but thought that the bird would have flown later in the day. This appeared to not be the case. When the bird was still in exactly the same spot in the evening, the animal ambulance was called in.
The fire brigade was eventually deployed to remove the rook from the tree, using a cherry picker. The rescuers managed to loosen the piece of plastic and so the rook could be taken down. Animal control staff took the bird away.
