Requesting your own registration history from RDW is now free | NOW

If you request your registration history online from the RDW, you no longer have to pay for it. That reports the Consumers’ Association Monday. Paying for the license plate inspection was in violation of the GDPR privacy law.

Previously, consumers who requested their registration history online had to pay 4.65 euros to the RDW. However, according to the Consumers’ Association, this was in violation of the privacy law. It states that consumers must have unimpeded access to all personal data that an organization or company has about them.

However, the RDW stated that they provided additional data for the requested amount. Retrieving the current license plate data was free of charge. In addition, it was already possible to request the registration history free of charge by means of a letter with a copy of the identity document.

The Consumers’ Association sounded the alarm at the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP). He agreed with the organization and instructed the RDW to adjust their procedure. The agency has now done so. From now on, consumers can request their registration history free of charge via DigiD. This one goes back to nine years ago.
