The water in the Jan Decoomanstraat in Zandbergen in East Flanders has receded after last week’s floods, but the misery is not over for the residents. This week the stones are freezing out of the ground: that cannot be beneficial at all for houses where furniture warps due to moisture. “I have never held a mop in my entire professional life. But now I can mop the floor,” says Georges (74).
