Four northern political parties have set up a hotline for parents and young people who have problems with Jeugdbescherming Noord. The parties hope to be able to map out what is wrong with the organization. Involved professionals are also asked to report.
The parties Leefbaar Assen, List van Brakel, 100% for Groningen and the PVV Groningen are concerned about the state of affairs at Youth Protection Noord.
Last month, the entire Supervisory Board of the organization resigned after a critical report from the Inspections for Healthcare & Youth and Security & Justice. According to that report, children, young people and their parents do not receive appropriate protection, guidance and help they need on time. A large extent lacks regular youth care workers for the families.
In March this year, the Inspectorate investigated the state of affairs at the organization. Youth Protection Noord has been placed under stricter supervision and the inspection service will check more often. In addition, youth protection must demonstrate improvement. “By resigning, the Supervisory Board takes responsibility for the past and wants to free up the way for the necessary improvements that have since been used,” a spokesperson for youth protection then said.
The now opened report must properly map the problems. The people involved emphatically state that the experiences of residents are central. The hotline is managed by independent confidants who are not affiliated with youth care institutions or governments. According to the initiators of the reporting point, these offer a listening ear, give advice if necessary and can help in searching for solutions or raising abuses.
