Report: Wolves express interest in FC Barcelona homegrown Riqui Puiq

Next deal after Traoré & Co.?

Riqui Puig (22) is at a dead end at FC Barcelona even after the change of coach to Xavi. The midfielder, who was trained at the club, has recorded a slight increase in the number of minutes played under the new coach, but he is only used sporadically and mainly takes a seat on the bench. Puig has been waiting for another assignment in LaLiga since the beginning of January, most recently he played away from SSC Napoli in the Europa League.

Despite being part of the squad for all his games this season, the Spain youth international has amassed 363 minutes in 13 games – 270 of them under Xavi. Wolverhampton Wanderers could now provide a way out for the right foot, who, according to a report in the Catalan newspaper “Sports“ are said to have expressed an interest in Puig. Accordingly, the English have been following the player since his youth and now see the chance to sign him.

Puig will be in his last year of contract next season, which is why Blaugrana can still get a fee for the home-grown player in the summer transfer window. After a second minus in a row in the last update, its market value is currently 9 million euros.

There had been several deals between the two clubs in the recent past. In winter, Adama Traoré (26) joined Barça on a loan basis with a purchase option of around 30 million euros, which is said to be looking to sign the attacker on a free transfer. Francisco Trincão (22), who has been loaned out to the “Wolves” with a purchase option of around EUR 29 million until the end of the season and plays there, could help here.

While Traoré and Trincão changed clubs on loan, Nélson Semedo (28) went to the English club for €32m in the summer of 2020, where he established himself as a regular. Puig could go a similar way.
