Report: Trio around Sesko on FC Bayern’s successor list for Lewandowski

farewell rumours

FC Bayern’s top striker Robert Lewandowski is associated with a move to FC Barcelona. Even though Munich CEO Oliver Kahn ruled out selling the 33-year-old next summer on Tuesday evening, the German record champions want to be prepared for all eventualities and are working on a list of potential successors for the world footballer.

As the “Sport Bild” reports, three names in particular belong to the so-called “shadow squad” in Bayern’s attack: Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko (18), VfB Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic (24) and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick (26). Sesko is said to have “enormous potential” and is a next-generation center forward. The attacker is in his first full professional season and has recorded nine goals and seven assists in 30 games so far. The Slovenian national player, whose market value is 8 million euros, is contractually bound to the top Austrian club until 2026.

While Sesko would be a project for the future, Kalajdzic, who has a contract with VfB until 2023 and is unlikely to be extended, could help immediately. According to the report, the left foot was already a perspective player at Bayern before moving to Swabia in 2019. After that, the contact was apparently not broken off. In January there was “loose contact” between the Austrian’s agent, who missed many games this season due to injury, and the Munich team. The most valuable VfB professional with a market value of EUR 22 million is said to bring in a transfer fee of at least EUR 20 million. This would put the national player in fifth place in the list of VfB’s most expensive sales.

FC Bayern is looking for a Lewandowski successor: Schick is probably the most expensive

One shelf up is Schick, whose market value is estimated at 40 million euros. According to information from the magazine, the “Werkself” should call at least 75 million euros for the Czech, whose working paper ends in 2025. Only Kai Havertz (22) was even more expensive in the history of the Leverkusen club when he switched to Chelsea with 80 million euros (in addition to the record departures of Bayer Leverkusen). However, Bayer 04 recently ruled out a departure from Schick in the summer. With 20 goals in 22 Bundesliga games this season, he is a sought-after player, but managing director Fernando Carro declared him not for sale.

A transfer from Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland (21) is said to have been discussed in the Munich executive floor, but the cost of the Norwegian’s overall package – which is around 350 million euros – was assessed as too expensive. At Lewandowski, meanwhile, according to “Sport Bild” everything is still open. FC Bayern’s preferred solution is an extension for another season until 2024, although the top striker is likely to demand another salary increase for further cooperation. The Pole is already the best earner with an estimated 24 million euros a year, and there is a possibility of an increase to up to 30 million euros.
