Report: SpVgg Unterhaching has not paid professionals since December

Schwabl takes a stand

The first version of this article appeared at 2:50 p.m. and was then updated with further statements by Schwabl.

The top of the table in the Regionalliga Bayern SpVgg Unterhaching is apparently struggling with liquidity problems and, according to media reports, has not been able to pay salaries to either players or employees since December. Despite the tense situation, the license documents will also be submitted for the 3rd league, “we will have to see whether the required conditions can then be met,” reports the “Southgerman newspaper“ in reference to President Manfred Schwabl.

“We don’t have a substantial problem, but a temporary liquidity problem,” the club boss is asked about the financial situation at “table footballquoted. “We’re lagging behind in January salaries, that’s true. But we paid most of the December salaries. The liquidity bottleneck has certain reasons. Income from share sales and sponsorship money is now coming later than we initially expected,” said the 56-year-old in an interview with the German press agency “dpa” on Monday. “When it comes to sponsoring, however, you have to realize that the economic environment is currently difficult for many. It can sometimes take a little longer for funds to flow. In times like these, you still have to be thankful for such payments. You have to get through this together,” says Schwabl.

From the resale of Haching’s own child, Karim Adeyemi, from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund, the Spielvereinigung collected an additional 6 million euros last year, but most of the income was used to “remove legacy issues”, says Schwabl: “We have for one Regional league clubs have recently generated high transfer income, but also high running costs, for example due to our great commitment to young talent. We used the income from the Adeyemi transfer to free ourselves from bank obligations. We have also invested in the infrastructure.”

However, the 56-year-old is confident that he will be able to come up with a solution by the end of this week or the beginning of next week and be able to pay the outstanding salaries as a result.

It remains to be seen to what extent the financial difficulties at the regional league will affect the short and medium-term future. According to the TM database, 17 contracts expire at the end of the season, plus the working paper from coach Sandro Wagner. The view into an uncertain future and the question of whether promotion under these circumstances makes any sense at all and, above all, can be managed economically, is also what the players are concerned with, according to “SZ”. When asked about the promotion question, Schwabl said: “I’m not ruling anything out. Not that we can and want to afford it economically. ”The president had already mentioned several times in the past that the leap from the regional league to the 3rd division represented a financial risk for numerous clubs. Of course, the club wants to act as high-class as possible in the medium term, “but without hara-kiri.”
