Free transfer in summer
Phil Neumann is one of the three players at Holstein Kiel whose contracts expire at the end of the season. It is questionable whether the full-back will stay with the “storks” beyond the summer. Most recently, the “Kicker” reported on Werder Bremen’s interest in the defensive player, who has been in Kiel since 2019 and has played 70 games (one goal/five assists). According to “imageHowever, the second division club receives information from competition from the Bundesliga, in which several unnamed clubs are said to also have Neumann in their sights.

With a market value of 700,000 euros, the 24-year-old is the second most valuable second division right-back after HSV professional Jan Gyamerah (26) with his contract ending in 2022 (overview). A move to Germany’s top flight could see the former youth international make his top-flight debut, where he was twice on the bench in the 2016/17 season when he was called up to the first team at Schalke 04 from the youth side. While Neumann did not succeed in making the leap to the professional level with the Royal Blues, he did so in 2017 when he switched to FC Ingolstadt.

Both with the “Schanzern” and later in Kiel, he established himself in the 2nd division, where he has been used in 87 games (one goal/six assists). Neumann is the undisputed regular this season for the “Storks”, who “need planning security” in this personnel area, as sporting director Uwe Stöver confirmed in the Transfermarkt interview.
“The next few days and weeks will show how things develop. But it goes without saying that we are trying to clarify this as soon as possible,” he said. The club would currently be “in lively exchange” with the players who were free to transfer in the summer. Recently, Philipp Sander (23) and Johannes van den Bergh (35) extended their originally expiring contracts.
