It would fit that sports director Marcel Schäfer, according to information from “picture“ on Sunday at the game between Salzburg and Austria Vienna (5:0), in which the hosts made the ninth league title in a row perfect, to scout the 24-year-old personally, among other things. Born in Vienna, who still has a contract in Salzburg that runs until 2024, he has played 32 games so far this season and, with 2,649 minutes played, is the central defender with the most playing time in coach Matthias Jaissle’s team. With a fee of 10.5 million euros, he was once the most expensive signing in the history of the Salzburg club.

At Wolfsburg, Wöber could follow Brooks, the most expensive defender in VfL history to date, who is looking for a new challenge after five years with Lower Saxony and is leaving on a free transfer. According to the “WAZ” report, Wöber, who is left-footed like Brooks, is a speaker and should take a leading position in the coming season after a disappointing season at VfL. For the six-time Austrian national player, it would be the fifth stop in his professional career and his third abroad after having already worked for Ajax Amsterdam and FC Sevilla. According to reports, however, he is not the only candidate that the “wolves” should have on their list for the defensive center.

VfL Wolfsburg: Wöber would be Red Bull Salzburg’s third signing in recent years

After Xaver Schlager (24) and Marin Pongracic, Wöber would be the third professional to move from Salzburg to Wolfsburg in the past ten years. Central defender Pongracic will probably return to VfL after his loan at Borussia Dortmund. The 24-year-old only played sporadically at BVB and is reportedly not part of the Black and Yellow plans beyond the season. But fulfilling his contract in Wolfsburg until 2024 should be difficult according to his critical statements last November (to the news).
