VfB took Mangala from RSC Anderlecht for EUR 1.8 million in 2017 after BVB let an option to buy the former loan player expire. The Belgian then went on loan to HSV and made a total of 109 appearances for the Swabians, where his contract runs until 2024.
Thanks to the rumored income of EUR 15 million, VfB’s transfer balance would improve from EUR -6.4 million to EUR +8.6 million – the club only received more money for four players. As of today, after Mangala’s departure, defensive midfield would consist of captain Wataru Endo (29), Atakan Karazor (25), Clinton Mola (21) and Naouirou Ahamada (20).
