Debt reduction continues
French champions LOSC Lille face another change in personnel next summer due to financial problems. This is reported by theL’Equipe“. After the last season, 17 professionals had left the Ligue 1 club and flushed a total of 75.36 million euros into the tight coffers.
According to the club’s management, the debts of the past few years have been reduced, but – as of October 2021 – would still amount to 106 million euros. Therefore, according to the report, the three most valuable players in the squad are expected to be sold: Jonathan David (22), Renato Sanches (24) and Sven Botman (22), who together are worth €110m, almost half the squad’s value from Lille (239.3 million euros).

Above all, attacker David, who, like Botmann, is still contractually bound until 2025, is likely to bring in a large sum and significantly exceed his club’s record transfer fee of 27 million euros when he bought it in 2020. The Canada international is the undisputed top performer in coach Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team, has missed just one game this season and is by far his club’s top scorer with 17 goals. In the last market value update, its constant development brought it an increase from EUR 15 million to EUR 50 million.
LOSC Lille: Top earners would go with ex-Bayern professional Sanches
With the former Bayern professional Sanches, the “Dogues” would be able to remove their top earner from the payroll. According to reports, the central midfielder, whose working paper is valid until 2023, will receive around 300,000 euros gross per month. Most recently, the Portuguese international was linked with a move to AC Milan, but a potential deal failed due to the high salary demands. Wolverhampton was also considered an interested party.

Botman was also advertised in the winter transfer window. Milan and newly-financially strong Newcastle United were reportedly among those who had put out feelers for the centre-back. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur could dare to try next summer. According to that “Telegraph” Botman is on the list at the Premier League club alongside Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni (22) and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol (20).
