Report: FC Bayern observes Gladbach’s Marcus Thuram – Aims for a change to a top club

Free transfer alternative to Kane

Almost three months after the departure of Robert Lewandowski (34), FC Bayern is still discussing whether a nominal successor as a real center forward is needed for the game system, which has been geared towards the Poles in recent years. Newcomer Sadio Mané (30) does not have a bad record with seven goals in 14 appearances, but as a trained winger he brings a different player profile with him. For the next summer, those responsible in Munich are therefore dealing with other options and have loud “Sport1” Marcus Thuram in focus.

The 25-year-old Frenchman is one of nine professionals at Borussia Mönchengladbach with an expiring contract and would therefore be available on a free transfer. Compared to previously mentioned strikers such as Tottenham’s Harry Kane (29), who would cost both a fee and also demand far more salary, he would be the much cheaper option.

At the Rheinderby against 1. FC Köln, record champion Thuram is said to have observed closely and was present in the person of Markus Pilawa, the record champion’s new chief scout. At 5: 2 (2: 1), the attacker scored the final score in injury time and thus for the eighth time in the tenth game of the season across all competitions. For comparison: At Bayern Leroy Sané (26) is the most successful offensive player with nine goals, but also had four games more time due to the Champions League and Supercup.

FC Bayern: Marcus Thuram wants to join the top club – no talks so far

Thuram would fill the gap as a true centre-forward and at 1.92 meters he also has the stature to integrate the element of high flanks, which is rarely used in the Munich offensive this season. From winter onwards, those responsible should officially hold talks with the four-time national player and convince him of a free change in 2023. According to “Sport1”, Thuram is currently tending towards a departure and would like to make the move to a top club. However, there has not yet been direct contact between the player and Bayern.

As early as 2021, Thuram was associated with a departure from the “foals”, but a transfer did not materialize because Gladbach rejected offers from Inter Milan, among other things. After a weaker year, which led to a market value drop of 40 million to currently 20 million euros, a change to a big club in the summer was only realistic to a limited extent. Most recently, the four-time national player’s form is pointing upwards again, and the upcoming market value update before the World Cup could see the first plus since November 2020.
