Report: BVB has presented Hummel’s contract

Even though he wasn’t always in the starting XI for Borussia Dortmund in 2022/23, Mats Hummels has already played 35 games this season for BVB, who should now hope to be able to rely on the 34-year-old’s services next year.

With Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle, BVB signed two German national players for central defense in the summer of 2022, it seemed clear that veteran Mats Hummels would have to take a step back. Almost a year later, one thing is certain: the black and yellow need and appreciate Hummels, the vice-captain is still one of the best in his guild and was always impressive when Süle or Schlotterbeck were injured.

So it’s no wonder that BVB would be only too happy to rely on Hummels in the coming year. However, the ex-German international has not yet decided whether to extend his contract beyond June 2023. This is reported by the “WAZ”.

Accordingly, Dortmund has now offered Hummels a new employment contract. The contract is said to be the same that recently convinced Marco Reus of another year in the Ruhr area. According to “Bild”, Reus should be able to earn a maximum of seven million euros per year in the future. So far, the BVB veteran was the top earner of Borussia with a rumored twelve million euros.

According to “WAZ”, however, it is still in the stars whether Hummels will follow Reus’ example and extend it. It is said that the 2014 world champion has not yet decided whether he will stay, look for a new challenge or even hang up his football shoes.

At BVB, meanwhile, they are deliberately relaxed. Sports director Sebastian Kehl confirmed to “DAZN” at the end of April that they were “in close contact” with Hummels and added: “But we don’t have to emphasize it every day and we don’t have to give water level reports every day.” Don’t let yourself be carried away.

Would the opinion of sport.deusers, there is no hesitation: In a survey of over 8,000 voters, more than 70 percent said BVB should extend the contract with Hummels.
