Loaned to KV Oostende since 2020
RB Leipzig has apparently received inquiries for Frederik Jäkel (20), who has been on loan to Belgian KV Oostende since summer 2020. As “RBlive” and the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” report, FC Basel aims to sign the defender immediately. A change would be possible, since the transfer window in Switzerland is still open until February 15, but this winter the online portal classifies it as “unlikely”. In addition to the Swiss, there should also be interest from clubs in Germany and the Netherlands.

While Jäkel only started in the second half of the previous season due to injury, this year he is one of the regulars at his club with 21 appearances (two goals/one assist). The German junior national player, who was awarded the Fritz Walter medal in bronze in 2020, is on loan to Belgium until the end of the season. Whether Jäkel will play a role at his training club RB Leipzig after his return is open. His contract there runs until 2024.

“RB is close to Freddy’s heart, but the club must now decide whether they see the player in Leipzig in the medium term or not. As the next station, we want to have a club that trusts it to make the leap into the 1st division,” adviser Jan Heuckeroth is quoted as saying by “RBlive”. According to the report, another loan in the coming season is not an issue for the player side. This obviously arouses the interest of other clubs, not only from Switzerland.
“Concrete, partly written inquiries”, as the report says, are from the 2nd Bundesliga from SV Darmstadt 98, SV Werder Bremen, Hamburger SV, FC Schalke 04, 1. FC Nuremberg and Hansa Rostock. But also in the Bundesliga, three clubs in the (south)west and the Dutch Vitesse Arnhem should have the defensive man on their list. When asked about his sporting future, Jäkel recently said in an interview with “RBlive‘ that he had ‘not thought about it’ until now. The aim is to present himself for his regular club, but he would keep “everything open”.
