Report: A quarter of Germans have no money for holidays

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) — In view of the high inflation and the sharp rise in prices for air travel and accommodation, a large proportion of Germans cannot afford a holiday. This is the result of a representative survey conducted by the opinion research institute Civey among more than 10,000 people on behalf of Spiegel. Accordingly, 25 percent of those surveyed do not have the financial means to go on vacation this year. The lower income classes are particularly hard hit: 65 percent of people in households with a net income of less than 1,500 euros a month do not have the money for a trip. According to the survey, 24 percent of those surveyed also have to save on the vacation itself, for example by shortening their trip or looking for a cheaper vacation destination.
