Replacement voting card for residents in Goirle who no longer received mail

On a number of streets in Goirle where no mail has been delivered for weeks, the approximately 1,600 residents will automatically receive a replacement voting card for the House of Representatives elections. “We will of course ensure that all voters from the municipality of Goirle can vote on November 22,” promises Mayor Mark van Stappershoef.

The municipality knows via PostNL to which addresses no voting cards have been delivered. This concerns 47 postal codes in the De Hellen district in Goirle. These residents will receive a new, replacement voting card as soon as possible. They don’t have to do anything for that. “I am very disappointed with this situation. Unfortunately, as a municipality we cannot prevent this,” said the mayor.

“I’m happy that residents find it important to vote.”

Local residents of the De Hellen district in Goirle raised the alarm on Monday: they had not received any mail for almost two weeks. According to a PostNL spokesperson, the problem lay with one employee who ‘did not function properly’. As a result, not all mail was delivered.

“The many responses from residents show that they find it important to cast their vote. That pleases me,” says Mayor Stappershoef.

“PostNL has promised that they will be extra alert to ensure correct delivery.”

Creating and sending 1,600 replacement voting cards is quite a job, the municipality says. They will be delivered well before the election date. “This is feasible through good cooperation between PostNL, the municipality and the printer. PostNL has promised that they will be extra alert to the correct delivery of this new shipment,” said Stappershoef. The replacement voting card includes a letter explaining how voting with a replacement voting card works.

Members of the polling stations will check the validity of the voting cards extra carefully because there are at least 1,600 invalid voting cards. “We will take measures to ensure this goes smoothly.”
