R.building palettes, broken powders, beauty products which have suffered damage. Regenerated and restored to their original form by the skilled hands of laboratory technicians. All accompanied by relaxing sounds. Here’s what goes crazy about TikTok: cosmetic repair has never been so cool. But why?
Repairing broken cosmetics, a real trend on TikTok
The ASMR makeup (Autonomous sensory meridian response) on TikTok it’s a real trend, on the favorite social of Gen Z you can find videos in which influencers gently caress make-up brushes, or repair, recompose, rearrange broken cosmetics.
I’m over 678 million people who searched on TikTok the hashtag #cosmetic repairs. THE cosmetic repair tutorials are among the biggest trends on social media todayso much so that it has supplanted the more famous ASMR videos where people whisper or eat in front of a microphone.
A new way to relax is offered to beauty lovers, who remain enchanted seeing the regeneration of eye palettes and lipsticks destroyed by time or misuse. In the tutorials (if they can be called that) you can only see the hands of those who work and the product to be recomposed.
Everything is cleaned to perfection, removing the broken product and fixing the case as well – from glass to metal container – while the powders are treated and purified in industrial machinery.
Cosmetic repair, a relaxation activity?
The reason for the success of these videos? They would have the effect of generate a feeling of calm, order and relieve the stress of the viewer.
“I feel safe here,” wrote one user after seeing some palettes receiving the full makeover treatment. And again, “this account helps me more than my anxiety meds,” wrote another. Proving that the ASMR makeup could also have positive implications – not only on the “well-being” make up – but above all on those who observe them.
Repairing old cosmetics: the possible risks
Yet, “all that glitters is not gold” and, according to experts, there may be many pitfalls behind these harmless videos. According to some opinions, cosmetic repair is not always a good idea.
The reason? Some products may be very old and out of date, repairing them and applying them in the eye area (the most sensitive of all) could trigger allergies and skin reactions.
Cosmetic repair, complex technique
But not only. As stated by Nick Dindiocosmetic chemist and director of research and development at SOS Beautyin an interview with Allure.
“People who repair cosmetics definitely know what they are doing. The equipment, various tools and machinery that are used are quite expensive and they could not be used by a non-expert person », he continues.
“For this reason, I don’t think the average consumer would have the ability to repair cosmetics like this at home“. That said, getting inspired by a nice decluttering of the beauty case is still a good idea.
