Repair work on the A28 near Assen completed

The repair work on the A28 near Assen-Noord in the direction of Groningen was completed this morning. Traffic can pass here again. This morning there was still a long traffic jam due to the repair work.

“The lines were reapplied this morning,” says a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat.

Rijkswaterstaat previously announced that bad weather played a role in the delay of the work. As a result, the asphalt needed more time to harden.

While cleaning up after an accident last Thursday, Rijkswaterstaat accidentally discovered that part of the slope of the viaduct at the Assen-Noord exit had been washed away. The washing away of the subsoil had left a large hole in the asphalt.

The inspection of the road after the accident also revealed that the center guide had to be repaired and that new lines had to be applied to the road surface.

The road manager calls it a “blessing in an accident” that the washout under the road surface was discovered. “You shouldn’t think about what could happen if a heavy truck drives over such a weak spot,” a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat said on Friday.

The repair work was necessary after a car crashed into the guardrail at Assen-Noord last Thursday. There were no injuries. However, the road was littered with mud and car parts.
