Reovauling had a difficult year

Nevertheless, the Reovauction ends the year with almost the same turnover as last year. But there are some shifts in the supply, price and consumption of products. Filip Vanaken, Reoveiling: “That probably has to do with the warm summer. Summer vegetables really benefited from that. It was warm. Fresh vegetables are always nice to consume. And the consumption of them has benefited greatly from that.”

The supply and turnover of tomatoes, cucumber, mushrooms, chicory and greenhouse lettuce fluctuate slightly compared to last year. But leeks are taking a big hit with almost half the turnover. “Open field vegetables and especially leeks, because that is our largest product in this field, had to deal with a much lower demand because it was not so cold in the winter. That always has consequences for the consumption of leeks. And that price was low , although there was still a lot of leek.”

At the start of 2023, inflation and energy will still weigh heavily and many producers will have to consider whether the suds are worth it.
