REO spoke about the checks of garbage dumps in St. Petersburg after Shnurov’s clip

The Russian Ecological Operator (REO) conducted inspections of the state of garbage sites in St. Petersburg, where in January there was a collapse due to non-disposal of waste, about which the musician Sergey Shnurov shot a video. Based on the results of inspections, the REO revealed an overflow of containers in the city, RBC was told in the company.

“On January 13 and 14, representatives of the REO went to check the situation with the removal of MSW at several addresses, which most often appeared in the messages of the applicants <...>. As of January 14, MSW was not removed at all container sites, the containers are overflowing, the surrounding area is littered with garbage, ”the message received by RBC said.

In the first week after the New Year holidays, the REO “Radar” system, which accumulates messages about problems in the field of waste management, received a record number of complaints about spontaneous dumps and non-disposal of garbage from the residents of St. Petersburg. decisions on 233 appeals are already ready.

The reason for the garbage collapse in the city is the low preparation of St. Petersburg for the new waste management system, which the city passed over from January 1, 2022. Now one company, the Nevsky Ecological Operator (NEO), is responsible for garbage collection in the city.

“There is a shortage of specialized equipment for the rhythmic collection and transportation of MSW in St. Petersburg. At the same time, there are Euro-containers and tanks with an increased capacity at the container sites, which cannot be loaded into standard garbage trucks,” said Evgeny Karelov, Deputy General Director of the REO.
