Renze Klamer thinks that Nikkie de Jager behaves very harshly towards young children on television. He wonders to what extent that is exactly necessary. “I thought, how old are they? 13, 14?”
Nikkie de Jager, also known as NikkieTutorials, has a new children’s program about make-up. She was allowed to promote it yesterday in Renze Klamer’s talk show and he showed his viewers a number of fragments. It shows that the make-up diva is quite critical as a jury member.

At one point a boy comes to stand in front of Nikkie who has very diligently painted a swan on his face. Her criticism is unrelenting: “To be honest, I really had to look a few times to see that it was a swan. I think – also when I look at the rest – that you can really do more than that in an hour and a half.”
But Nikkie’s other comments are also pretty spicy. After Renze’s compilation, she shouts: “Stop it! This is a very silly cut. It’s a competition!”
“They’re 13!”
Renze, himself the father of two young girls, finds Nikkie’s behavior questionable. “It is very real what you say, it is sincere criticism, but I also think… I thought: how old are they? 13, 14?”
Nikkie: “Yes, but look: it’s a competition and one goes out every week, so they also have to continue and improve. I always try to give feedback that they can use. That is not always fun, but they can always do something with it.”

Gijs Rademaker, who nowadays ‘gauges’ the most random bits and pieces, replies: “Don’t they also know that they are participating in this concept?”
There is no point in baking sweet rolls, says Nikkie. “Yes, I can say every week: ‘Well, honey, you did it so beautifully! I wouldn’t change a thing!’ Yeah, that doesn’t work either.”
Gijs: “It has to be a bit exciting, such a program.”
Renze: “Do you do the spokesperson for Nikkie?”
Gijs: “I just feel for her. I would approach this exactly like this.”
Tyra Banks
Nikkie states that she took some inspiration from Tyra Banks, who was always very mean as a judge on America’s Next Top Model. “I grew up with Tyra Banks, of course. So I totally thought: that’s what I’m going to do! And then I saw those children standing in front of me and then I thought: no, we are not going to do that, because they will break!”
Renze: “Well, but I thought you did that a bit!”
Nikki: “Oh really?!”
Renze: “Yes. (…) It is of course also true that they look up to you very much. You will also notice that when you see the program. That also means that what you say to them has a lot of value and is probably very decisive for them. That is also a great responsibility.”
