Renze Klamer was just on his phone last night during the live broadcast of his talk show on RTL 4. It causes bewilderment among viewers. “This is really, really bad.”
Talk show presenters invariably wear an earpiece to communicate with the control room. They can also receive certain facts or figures in that way. Despite this, Renze Klamer decided yesterday during a conversation with Jeroen Pauw and Gijs Rademaker to simply grab his iPhone to look up a fact.

Renze talked to his guests about the latest seat poll. The number of D66 seats was missing from the overview that was shown. When Jeroen wonders how many seats that party has been polled for, Renze decides to grab his phone, after which he stays away from the conversation for about fifteen seconds.
The well-known TV tweeter Victor Hopman finds it hilarious. He shares the fragment and writes: “This is a beautiful image, the presenter is busy on his phone, Jeroen is adding this show.”
Sloppy directing
Renske Holwerda, director of RTL News, thinks so shot van Renze should not have been shown on his phone at all. “Huh? Was anything said about it? Otherwise really very silly and sloppy direction indeed.”
One Matthijs: “He quickly looked up how many seats D66 has in the poll. Sloppy management indeed.”
Renske: “That should be checked by the editor-in-chief and then shouted into his earpiece. Very strange, although Genee is of course also on his iPad in between, but he really makes it part of his show there.”
Victor: “Yes, it was very strange that he went to look this up himself, in the middle of a conversation.”
Unprofessional
This was a moment of unprofessionalism and the direction caught him on it, says one Susanne with a wink. “Someone in the control room arranged in a matter of seconds that Renze would not receive a contract extension. 😆”
Linda is very enthusiastic about the fact that Renze just sat comfortably on his phone during the broadcast. “I find it refreshing and informal.”

What does Renze himself say about it? “Haha. We wanted to know at the table how D66 did in the seat poll of I&O Research. No one knew, so I thought I’d look it up 🤷🏻♂️”, he tweets.
Alexander Klöpping to that: “Renze you have an earpiece!!!”
Renze: “I am faster.”
Alexander: “Perhaps you also want to embrace the laptop-on-table look, then we will start a club.”
