Rents won’t go down just by talking

The Berlin MPs must finally get the rent problem under control, says BZ editor Stefan Peter Photo: stock.adobe.com

Tens of thousands of apartments are missing in Berlin, rents are rising and rising – nothing will change after yesterday’s debate in the House of Representatives.

The parliamentarians debated the catastrophic situation in Berlin for over an hour, but there was (once again) no solution.

But at least there is a proposal from the Greens that should be discussed: Does Berlin really need six state-owned housing associations? With lots of highly paid bosses?

For comparison: In Hamburg there is the municipal Saga with 138,000 rental apartments, in the capital there are six companies with a total of 360,000 apartments.

Apart from the Green proposal: stop blaming each other and always using the same arguments!

The MPs must finally tackle the rent problem together.
