Rents in the private sector increased by 8.5 percent to a new record

Rents in the private sector increased by 8.5 percent in the last quarter of last year compared to a year earlier. This is evident from figures provided by the housing platform Pararius published on Tuesday. For the first time, tenants pay an average of more than 18 euros per square meter.

More and more homes are moving from the rental to the purchase market, Pararius sees. In the last three months of last year, almost 8 percent of all homes for sale were former rental properties. On the other hand, the total supply of owner-occupied homes has fallen sharply.

Rental properties from 148 points, approximately 880 euros, fall under free rent. Maximum rent increases also apply in that category, but landlords who offer a new contract can increase the rent as high as they want. In the Netherlands, things went according to plan three years ago Central Bureau of Statistics around 600,000 homes in the private sector, approximately 8 percent of the total.
