The team of counselors responsible for caring for the homeless has tripled. Now there are 14 of them, and they are happy with the accommodation.
“It is gigantic. We are actually surprised that we can run the entire roof and homelessness service here. Basic capacity of 20, in winter 26. We have lockers and above all we have space… which is spacious. Also space for the partners and for discussion space,” says Ludo Van Gheluwe of the Doorgroeihuis in Ostend.
From a pure night shelter where they used to have to mop because it rained in, Ostend now has a transition house to help people get better quickly.
