Reno files for bankruptcy, joining the list of shoe retailers like Görtz and Salamander that have faltered in recent months.
The insolvency proceedings for Reno Schuh GmbH and Reno Schuhcentrum GmbH were ordered by the district court of Hamelin on Tuesday, according to an entry on the website bankruptcy announcements.de. Lawyer Immo Hamer from Valtier in Hanover was appointed provisional insolvency administrator.
Crisis in the shoe industry
The Reno online shop is no longer available. According to Valtiers, almost 1,100 employees are affected by the insolvency, as previously reported by Wirtschaftswoche. The focus is now on getting business operations going again and offering employees prospects again.
The shoe retailer was sold by the HR Group to Cm.Sports GmbH based in Springe, Lower Saxony, just six months ago. Reno was once the second largest shoe retailer in Germany with around 500 branches. According to Wirtschaftswoche, Reno still operated around 300 branches according to the latest figures.
