The history of RENK Group AG, as published on the company website, goes back to 1873, when Johann Julius Renk laid the foundation stone for the company in a garage in Augsburg. A few years later, the company achieved its first breakthrough with the production of 500 precision automotive transmissions per month. In 1934, RENK reached another milestone with the construction of the first ship reversing gears and a few years later was able to set another record with the construction of the world’s fastest gearbox. In 1943, the company successfully entered tank production with a reinvention in the area of active steering systems. A long-term success story followed, characterized by innovative innovations, particularly in the areas of transmissions and drive systems for tanks and ships. Another groundbreaking technological step was the development of the RDDS (RENK Dynamic Data System) automation system to control a cardan shaft test bench, which is still used today in Formula 1 motorsport development. In 1987 the name was changed to RENK Aktiengesellschaft – with the product areas of automatic vehicle transmissions, drive elements and testing systems.
