Renewed VZV wants to keep attacking top two: “Minimum European Cup”

Prior to the new handball season, it is always the question of how the four North Holland women’s teams in the Eredivisie came out of the summer break. Which changes have taken place and what are the objectives? Today attention to VZV from ‘ t Veld.

VZV trainer Rolf Schulte about the goals of his team – NH Sport

VZV finished fourth in the final standings last season and thus the goal of placing for the European Cup was more than achieved. Yet the team from the Noordkop wants more. “We still want to attack the top two. Competitor Quintus (last season third, ed.) has suffered the most from turnover in the team and we have had less trouble with that,” says VZV coach Rolf Schulte. “I assume that we will make it back to the championship group and then we have to wait and see how far we will get.”

With the large turnover within his team, Schulte refers to six players who have left. “Fortunately, we were able to get Lisa van der Geest from Volendam back and Meike van Splunter from SEW came. The other places in the selection are filled with players from the youth. Fortunately, I notice that, just like last year, the connection of the youth with the first is going very well,” said Schulte.

Amber Zomerdijk, Lynn Klysser, Dominique Koppe, Demy Worst, Silvana Koppe and Romé Steverink no longer play for the club. The latter has switched to vice champion VOC.

European Cup

In addition to the Eredivisie, VZV will also play in the EHF European Cup. Last year, coach Schulte’s team reached the eighth finals in which the later winner Malaga ultimately proved too strong. “Now we’re going to Finland. That’s not exactly a country I would think of for a holiday, but it is again a guarantee for a nice adventure. Opponent Dicken is close to us in terms of ranking, so we don’t differ much,” says Schulte about the upcoming opponent in Europe.
