Today the ‘Turn the switch too’ campaign is restarting with new energy saving tips. The campaign also aims to raise awareness to save more energy. Energy prices are still high, and while the price cap is helping many people and businesses reduce costs, it is still important for many to keep energy costs down.

Minister Rob Jetten: “Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, considerable savings have been made by the Dutch. Gas consumption has decreased by more than a quarter and electricity consumption has fallen by about 5%. Particularly in the field of electricity, the challenge lies in doubling the savings in the coming months. With this campaign restart, we want to continue to save energy and help people further reduce energy costs.”

The campaign will be seen even more often with advertisements on radio and TV, in newspapers, on websites and on social media. Savings tips now focus on saving energy in the winter months, such as:

  • Thermostat at a maximum of 19 degrees during the day and 15 degrees in the evening
  • Shower for a maximum of 5 minutes
  • Install LED lighting
  • Closing doors for companies to keep heat in and adjust the climate system more economically
  • Also small tips such as: water-saving shower heads, radiator foil, seal seams and cracks, close curtains at night and wash at lower temperatures with a full drum

The campaign was launched in early April to raise awareness of the need to save energy due to rising energy costs and energy scarcity caused by the war in Ukraine. A majority of people say they have already taken or plan to take energy-saving measures, both for the short term (79%) and the long term (60%). Saving energy not only reduces costs, it also reduces the question of what will help the energy market settle down.
