Former FC Groningen has been revived and will play twice in the region in the next ten days. Sounding names are part of the selection of trainer Joop Gall.
It was quiet around former FC Groningen for a while, but under the leadership of (former) team manager Theo Huizinga and coordinator (and former caretaker) Henk Hagenauw, a renewed selection has been put together that will compete in the coming weeks with former vv Gasselternijveen and old-Gronitas/old-De Vogels.
VV Gasselternijveen exists 100 years
Friday evening 2 June is the ball in Gasselternijveen. The local amateur association exists 100 years. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at sports park De Hunze. Roelof Luinge makes his appearance as referee. Gall’s selection this evening includes former goalkeepers Roy Beukenkamp and Johan Tukker, Paul Matthijs, Gibril Sankoh, Ronald Steenge, Sander van Gessel, Marnix Kolder and good old Martin Drent.
On Saturday 10 June, the veterans will once again put on their kicks for the centenary of SC Stadspark, the merger club in which Gronitas and De Vogels have merged. It is actually De Vogels that has existed for 100 years. The rights of the oldest club are leading in anniversaries.
SC City Park
SC Stadspark turns out quite well. For example, on Friday 9 June there is already the Golden Oldy’s Tournament, with clubs such as former Astrea, former Velocitas, former Helpman and former Gruno. On Saturday there are youth clinics and the SC Stadspark Lady’s Tournament. At 4.15 pm, the pre-match between Kids United and the SC Stadspark youth is scheduled. And at 5.30 pm it is then time for former Groningen and former De Vogels against former FC Groningen.
For this occasion, Joop Gall will bring Arjan Ebbinge, Grafton Holband, Maarten de Jong and Sergio Ommel, among others. Beukenkamp, Matthijs and Sankoh are also present again. The entrance fee in Gasselternijveen is 5 euros. Entrance to the Groninger Stadspark is free. After the games, it’s party time at both clubs.
