René van der Gijp expects World War III to break out in one week if the Russian people do not revolt against President Vladimir Putin. “You can’t just watch.”
Russia has launched a brutal and bloody war against neighboring Ukraine. The opposition to this is fierce: Russia has become a pariah on the world stage. Meanwhile, the derailed President Vladimir Putin feels quite cornered and has more or less threatened with the use of nuclear weapons.
‘West intervenes’
It doesn’t end well, René van der Gijp fears. He analyzes in VI Today: “I think we only have two options left. Or those Russians intervene themselves, either the people or those soldiers who will immediately launch those bombings and think: what in God’s name are we doing? Or we intervene in a week.”
By this he means the NATO countries. “I am really convinced of that. We’re not going to let hundreds of thousands of people die there, I’m convinced of that. We are far too civilized for that in the West. I am really convinced of that. He’s really coming with heavy artillery now. We’re not going to let that happen, I’m convinced.”
What does Wierd think?
Telegraaf journalist Wierd Duk does not rule it out either. “René has always had a good gut feeling about this crisis these weeks and I wonder that too. You have that huge column there approaching Kiev. So far, things are not going well for the Russians. If they get stuck somewhere and things don’t go well, they often think: we’re going to blow the whole thing.”
“If they start doing the same in Kiev, and we can’t rule that out, you will see images of dead children and women and street fights day after day. How long are we going to watch?”
decency
Johan Derksen: “If you have a bit of decency in you, you can’t watch what happens there. Only I think the people who are in the position to decide are terrified that this madman is still using a nuclear weapon.”
Flattening Kiev would not be tolerated, René thinks. “I never believe that say America, England and France allow that. That such a country is completely razed to the ground.
Wilfred Genee: “Then we’re in a war.”
Johan: “Then you have a real world war.”
Rene: “Yes.”
It cannot be otherwise, says Wierd. “Not when you blow so high about standards, values and human rights. Then at some point you will have to do something.”
