René van der Gijp remains Maarten van Rossem’s favorite direct object. The jury member of De Slimste Mens goes all out on the Today Inside star in his book. “Psychopath!”
It’s starting to get a bit tiring: the countless times that Maarten van Rossem lashes out at René van der Gijp. In his new book Maarten the TV jury member rages harder than ever and the VI star is the victim of this. “If you ask me about my opinion of René van der Gijp, I say: ‘I think that’s a bastard.’”
Disgraceful
According to Maarten, if you criticize Today Inside, you will quickly discover that René has a very poor ability to take things in stride. “Well, that’s exciting, unbelievable. The strange thing is that Gijp can say it about me, but if I say it about him, it is shameful. That remains quite strange.”
What does he think of VI? “Today Inside operates at a relatively low level, but is well organised. That Wilfred Genee is not backward and can do much better, as you can see from his radio programs, but as a talk show host he knows exactly which buttons to press.”
Psychopath
He also has no problem with Johan Derksen. “Derksen is not stupid, has nice interests and, in my opinion, could be better, but he allows himself to be sucked in by the male joie de vivre of that psychopath Gijp: he is purely there for daily entertainment.”
Maarten has been in VI twice; the first time without René. The second time he was there and there was a fierce clash between the two men. “The first time I had a very nice conversation. Gijp was not there then. He appears to be manic-depressive and was in his depressive period at the time.”
Men’s fun
He never watches Inside today. “It was an unpleasant adventure and Gijp is an idiot, but looking back, my performances there were also very educational. What Today Inside does is a well-known recipe: men’s fun. I remember well that my father said: ‘Maarten, men who tell dirty jokes are no good.’”
He concludes: “I have adhered to that all my life, I absolutely hate men and the humor that comes with it.”
