Nitrogen mediator Johan Remkes will talk for the second time with agricultural organizations on Wednesday about the measures that the cabinet wants to take to reduce nitrogen emissions. Prime Minister Rutte, agriculture minister Staghouwer, nitrogen minister Van der Wal and infrastructure minister Harbers will therefore join.
The farmers’ organizations only want to come if they can talk about “critical points”. These are, for example, the deletion of the nitrogen maps and the so-called critical deposition value (kdw). That is the limit to the amount of nitrogen that a specific nature reserve can handle. The deadline for halving nitrogen emissions, the year 2030, must also be on the table. They set that condition on Tuesday, and Remkes and the cabinet would have agreed to put the items on the agenda of the consultation.
Remkes also spoke with the agricultural and horticultural organizations at the beginning of this month. That happened in Utrecht. LTO Nederland was there on behalf of, among others, Agractie and Farmers Defense Force. They will be added on Wednesday.
