The German Florian Lipowitz still finished third at the Tour de France. But now he gets competition in his own team.
Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe commits one of the best-known drivers of international cycling in the coming season. Remco Evenepoel will start for the German team from 2026. The 25-year-old, who had won both time trial and the street race at the Olympic Games in Paris, changes from the Belgian racing team Soudal Quick-Step. His new team did not provide any information about the term of the contract and transfer period. According to media reports, the sum is around two million euros.
“Remco stands for a claim. He does not want to ride – he wants to shape,” said team boss Ralph Denk in the message. Denk also praised his “extraordinary sporting skills” and the mentality of the Belgian. He was particularly impressed by his “determination, professionalism and unconditional will to success”.
Evenepoel started with a victory in the first time trial at this year’s Tour de France, but had to end the race on the 14th stage in the Pyrenees. In the previous year he had ranked third on the Tour of France. There had been speculation about the change of street world champion from 2022 for over a year – even during this year the rumors were the rumors in the field of drivers.
The time trial specialist could compete with Florian Lipowitz in the new team. The tour third of 2025 was superior to Evenepoel both during the Tour de France and the Dauphiné tour. “If he should actually come, I would also be happy. We could then achieve something great together,” Lipowitz said a little more than a week ago after his success in the white jersey. In 2024, Evenepoel had won the young talent.
Access by the Olympic champion is not the only change in the racing team. Rolf Aldag will no longer be a sports director of the team in the future. Enrico Gasparotto, previously sporting director, also leaves Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. The contract of the four-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic expires at the end of the season.
