It is not entirely clear what explains the relatively large number of heavy drinkers in Opmeer. A quick tour of some passers-by in the heart of Opmeer shows that drinking starts early here. “I think it was instilled in me from an early age,” an older man explains the high figure. “In the barns here. It’s kind of part of the culture.”
