HSV Unveils New Home Jersey with Historic Design Changes
Hamburger SV (HSV) has unveiled its latest home jersey, which retains the club’s traditional predominantly white color, in line with its founding statutes. This new design includes striking dark blue accents at the collar and sleeve hems, but what has captured fans’ attention is the historic alteration of the shoulder stripes.
A Historic First: Multi-Colored Stripes
For the first time in the club’s history, the three shoulder stripes—an iconic feature associated with the brand adidas—are presented in different colors. Historically, HSV players have adorned their jerseys with these stripes since the late 1970s. This new design features two outer stripes in blue and an inner stripe in black, marking a refreshing departure from the previous monochrome designs.
The design pays tribute to the blue, white, and black stripes of the parking area in front of the east stand, referred to as “Parkplatz Weiß.” As the club describes, these stripes symbolize “the path to the living room, where fans share emotional moments.” Such connections to fan experiences deepen the emotional resonance of the kit.
A Design Inspired by the Arena
But that’s not the only design element that ties back to the stadium. The main white surface of the shirt features shimmering light blue stripes designed to echo the interplay of light from the stadium roof membranes. These mini-stripes lead up to the diamond emblem over the heart, further enhancing the shirt’s aesthetic appeal.
A Creative Launch Campaign
To accompany the jersey launch, HSV has released a promotional video inspired by the classic science fiction film “Back to the Future.” The video features several players, including Nicolai Remberg, Shafiq Nandja, and Victoria Schulz, interacting with their younger selves. Interestingly, the voices of the players are provided by the players themselves, while a U12 player from the HSV youth system portrays young Shafiq Nandja.
Pricing and Availability
The new jersey is now available for purchase in the online store, priced at €99.95 for adult sizes and €69.95 for children’s sizes. Impressively, the prices remain unchanged from the previous season, though additional costs may apply for customizing the jersey with a number, player name, or sleeve logos.
Sales Expectations
HSV aims high with its sales targets, with last season seeing a remarkable total of 185,000 jersey sales. The standout shirt was a special design commemorating the 1887th Bundesliga match, which sold 70,000 units. The classic home jersey also met similar success, indicating strong brand loyalty among fans.
Upcoming Events
Fans can expect to see the new kit in action during its first appearance at a test match against Rapid Vienna. Scheduled for Saturday at 19:00, this match marks an exciting debut for the newly-designed shirt. Additionally, the unveiling of the away jersey is anticipated in the coming weeks, promising even more excitement for HSV supporters.
This historic redesign not only symbolizes the evolution of HSV’s identity but also serves as a bridge between the club’s rich history and its vibrant future.
