The suitcases had been bought by an unsuspecting family at an auction in an Auckland warehouse on Aug. 11. At home they made the gruesome discovery. The police then launched a murder investigation. Earlier, the police could already determine that the children were between 5 and 10 years old, so now the full identification has been successful.
In a statement, the police confirmed that the two children are involved and that their families have requested that their names not be disclosed. The victims are believed to have been dead for three or four years. The cause of death is not yet known at this time.
Seoul police said a woman believed to be the mother of the two children was in South Korea on Aug. 22. The South Korean police are cooperating with the New Zealand authorities through Interpol. The storage company that sold the luggage is also helping police investigate other items that may be related to the bags, police said earlier this month.
