Hake-up victory playful, in the end in the extension: Eintracht Braunschweig prevailed in the relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga in a dramatic duel against 1. FC Saarbrücken and remains in the league.
After the 2-0 victory in the first leg, the Braunschweiger needed the extension in 2: 2 (0: 2, 0: 0) to prevail against the third division club from Saarland. Florian Krüger (66th/trade) and Kai Brünker (81.) initially equalized the result from the first leg.
Fabio di Michele Sanchez (105.+2nd) and Rayan Philippe (120th) shot the Braunschweiger into happiness.
In the end it was a bitter evening for the Saarbrücken. After a yellow-red card against Calogero Rizzuto (90th+1st), they played outnumbered in extra time.
For the first time in five years, the second division has successfully survived the relegation. Most recently, the 1st FC Nürnberg succeeded in 2020 (against FC Ingolstadt).
Polter averts miserably
In the event of a pouring rain in front of 19,000 spectators in the non-sold-out Eintracht stadium, it started not very spectacular. The Lower Saxony were initially dominant and had everything under control. They should also have taken the lead, but Sebastian Polter missed miserably in the initial phase.
Pens after Var-Check
The Saarbrücker hardly went to risk for an hour. Then FCS coach Alois Schwartz changed his tactics and brought three new players to Brünker, Patrick Schmidt and Tim Civeja.

And there was even harder for the Saarlanders, because Di Michele Sanchez ‘hit – a shot in the lower left corner – only fell one and a half minutes after the stoppage time of one minute.
But all protests and insults were of no use. Stieler gave the goal. Saarbrücken did not give up, threw everything in again. Schmidt, Civeja and Krüger had the 3-1 on the foot with top chances. But the big struggle of the guests should not be rewarded.
When Philippe with one of the last campaigns for 2-2 was finally sealed that the FCS played another year in the 3rd division, while the Braunschweigers cheered on the non-descent.
Fifth second division club in 17 games
Since the reintroduction of the relegation for the 2008/2009 season, the fifth second division has only won the relegation. The supposedly “small” cheer twelve times.
