VOLLEYBALL – For the thirteenth time in a row, Olhaco from Hoogeveen lost in the Top Division A. The first set was won by the Hoogeveners, but Webton turned the game around in a 3-1 victory. The set positions were 25-18, 20-25, 15-25 and 20-25. Due to the defeat, Olhaco is getting closer to relegation. With eight games to go, the team is still at the bottom, four points behind number 11, Bedum.
The team of trainer Menno Volkerink managed to win the first set convincingly with 25-18. For Olhaco this was only the tenth set win this season in the 14th game. In recent weeks, Volkerink has already seen an upward trend in the level of the Hoogeveners and this seemed to continue against Webton. Despite the set win, Olhaco alone did not manage to take points today. In the remainder of the game, the visitors from Hengelo were a size too big and the last three sets went to the guests with 20-25, 15-25 and 20-25.
Relegation battle with Bedum and Elburg
Olhaco is certainly not without a chance in the battle for relegation. EVV Bultman-Hartholt from Elburg and DIO/Bedum also managed to get few points this season. EVV, the number 10 in the ranking, is currently on 8 points. Bedum is one point below that, but has played considerably fewer games than the competitors. The last of the Top Division A is relegated directly to the First Division. The two teams in the Top Division A and B that finish eleventh play with the numbers 2 from the First Division for two places in the Top Division. Olhaco still has to visit Bedum, where there is a great chance to break open the battle for relegation.
Next week, Olhaco will play against the number 3, Orion, in Doetinchem. The other Drenthe club, Sudosa-Desto from Assen, will also be back in action. They will receive Zalsman Reflex from Kampen on March 5.
