A bit of commotion after local residents at the Schelphoek in Hoorn heard shots. The alarm was raised and the police called, because it was also unclear where the shots came from and whether there might have been a shooting. It turned out to be a false alarm: a man turned out to be shooting with an air gun on his own property.
Police took the report seriously and quickly cordoned off the area. They then searched with bulletproof vests on.
The officers encountered the man who was ‘practising’ with the air gun at his house. So false alarm and the man did not have to be arrested.

Still, the question remains whether the man has the right papers to have and use the weapon. “That is now being investigated,” said the police. Not every airgun is illegal per se. “That has to do with the capacity and the pressure you can build up with such a weapon. Some weapons are allowed to be used and others are prohibited.”
It is therefore possible that an official report will follow for the man from Hoorn, but that is not yet certain. Police have confiscated the weapon for the time being.
