Relaxing on lowered banks of the Leie: also in Sint-Eloois-Vijve
“The city council of Waregem and De Vlaamse Waterweg nv are working on the redevelopment of the barrage square in Sint-Eloois-Vijve,” says the city.

“The Waregem-Barrage site is part of the Leie works between Sint-Baafs-Vijve and the Harelbeke lock, within the Seine Scheldt Vlaanderen project. “Additional dimension to the site”
“The development plans provide for the conversion of the old industrial site of Waregem-Barrage into a pleasant place to stay on the water. As an extension of the promenade to the church of Sint-Eloois-Vijve, a square will be constructed with lowered banks of the Leie”, says the city in a statement.
“The center renovation of Sint-Eloois-Vijve was already a successful project in any case. However, the lowered banks of the Leie give an extra dimension and complete it,” says Waregem’s ships Rik Soens.
Events in Park
Next to the new square, a spacious park zone has been planned that can be used for various events on the water. Today, the plans for the new zone are in preparation and the steps towards realization can be further shaped.
The City of Waregem and De Vlaamse Waterweg will conclude a cooperation agreement for this.
The cost of the project is estimated at 4.8 million euros and will be shared financing between De Vlaamse Waterweg nv and the city.
