The relatives Richey Edwards’ hope for a “new note” regarding the unexplained disappearance of the Manic Street Preachers guitarist 23 years ago. The musician was declared dead in 2008 after his whereabouts, the question of whether he still lives at all could not be clarified. The 27-year-old at the time of the Manics conceptist suffered from depression.

The “new note” is based on a time that is now identified as incorrect. Originally, his sister Rachel Elias assumed that Edwards had crossed the Severn Bridge in Cardiff by 2:55 pm, i.e. in the afternoon, as a fee. However, research by the toll point now showed that at 2:55 on, i.e. at night, he had taken his last understandable path. Edwards’ car was found near the bridge on February 1, 1995.

“We believed that the period between his check-out from the hotel and the crossing across the bridge would have been eight hours,” Elias told the broadcaster ITV. The new time enabled new opportunities to search. “That means we had asked people who were not so important at the time” – rather, it is now about witnesses who could have seen him at a different time. “It all turns it upside down.”

Graham and Sherry Edwards were concerned, and in November 2008 they received a confirmation from the court for their concern. The court gave the marriage to the marriage. Her son Richey Edwards was now supposed to be dead.

Richey Edwards, guitarist and copywriter of the Manic Street Preachers, had been missing for 13 years. The uncertainty should now come to an end for the parents.

Edwards last trace ran on February 14, 1995 in Cardiff, Wales. Previously, on February 1, he and his bandmate James Dean Bradfield wanted to fly to the USA for a promotional tour from London; Instead, Edwards drove back to his hometown, where he was spotted in different locations in the following two weeks. On February 14, the police found his car parked near the Severn Brige. The proximity to the Severn Bridge nourished speculations that Edwards had killed. The bridge is 136 meters high, and many people have jumped from it in the past. To date, there is no serious indications that Edwards could still live.

The declaration of death from the official side had shaked the three remaining Manic Street Preater, Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore. On the other hand, the band said, one accepted the parents’ decision to complete with the uncertainty.

One spokeswoman said in 2008: “We all dream of one day Richey will return. We hope that he is still out there somewhere. But that’s not a realistic hope. She (she (The declaration of death) is a kind of ending and the band agrees. ” Edwards’ parents had initially steps in 2002, after the limitation period of a necessary seven -year period, to declare Edwards to be dead.

After the disappearance of her friend, the Manic Street Preater were initially undecided whether things could go on at all. It could go on. A year later, in 1996, they released their fourth album, “Everything Must Go”. The title was a reference to the fate of the disappeared guitarist. The record, which partly consists of songs written by Edwards, has so far been the greatest triumph; In addition to the previously published “The Holy Bible” (1994), it is considered the group of the group. Without Edwards, which the Manics themselves and many fans worship as a songwriter with poetic qualities, they struck a different direction. Edwards wrote primarily about death of adapting physical changes, trends as a means of pressure and the failure of humans towards technology. From “Everything Must Go”, the group’s songs remained politically, but they also became more optimistic, more humanistic.

The place of the fourth band member remains vacant to this day. From 1996, the Manic Street Preater continued as a trio. In 2009 they changed their direction again and returned to Richey Edwards: They made lyrics from his left -wing notes, composed their album “Journal for Plague Lovers” and had producer Steve Albini set up a brutal sound. The album was a Classic Edwards: Death, ruin, downfall, everything described with the words of a poet.

At their concerts, the Manic Street Preater regularly reminds Richey Edwards. Most recently, Nicky Wire said “Faster” with the words: “The next song is his fucking masterpiece”. He will not be forgotten.
